  2. Instructions are written for somebody who needs to know how to do something. Here are some examples of instructions Instructions help to keep us safe. We follow instructions when we learn how to play a game. Instructions help us find out how to make things. A recipe instructs us what ingredients we need and how to bake a cake.

  3. More about instructions: Instructions should begin with a helpful list of things we will need. We can gather these things before we begin to save us time later. Instructions are usually numbered. This helps us to make sure we follow them in the right order! Some instructions have pictures in case we can t read the words or we are unsure what the instruction means.

  4. How do instructions start? Some short instructions begin with bossy words . These are words that tell us exactly what action we need to do. These bossy words are sometimes called doing words or verbs . Can you spot the bossy words in these instructions? Kick the ball. Clap your hands. Put your coat on.

  5. Some instructions begin with when words. These are words that tell us when we need to follow the instruction. These when words help us to follow the instructions in the right order . Can you spot the when words in these instructions? First, get a cup. Next, put some water in the cup. After that, drink the water.
