2 Adrian Besimi, Use of Open Data by academia and start-ups What is data? Bunch of stuff that probably has no meaning. If organized well (and summarized) then we say we have Information. Information is money nowadays!

(Telegraph.co.uk) The digital bits created, replicated, and consumed each year in the US is expected to grow more than 25% a year. (IDC Digital Universe study, 2012)

Ex: open access to scientific papers, reports, open government data, user generated content on social media, e-commerce websites data, location based data.

Created open spend analysis for central and local government which was used to uncover a 45 per cent delay in the UK s tendering process, holding up 22 billion of government funds to the economy.

This database is built from a range of sources such as county records, tax data, listing of homes for sale or rental and mortgage information. The website puts the data with information on local land value and house price to create a service which accurately estimates the value of a house at a given address. An advanced statistical predictive tool provides up-to-date information on home values and rental prices.

If all transactions on a local government level in regard to real estate are published (without the sensitive data), real-estate prices and similar services could be offered. 2. Simple price-matching system that is collecting and comparing data from across different business online. 3. Health related applications, such as nutrition facts data (mobile app).
