Epidemiology of Anaemia Paediatric problem worldwide Women of child-bearing age Overtaken by men in old age 10% > 65 y, 20% > 85 y, 50% in nursing homes Rule of thirds in elderly Haematinics, CKD/ACD, Other (inc MDS) 50% of WBS components go to those > 70 y
Work stream objectives Improve self care of anaemia Education, support to community teams Target WCBA, GI blood loss, older people Reduce unnecessary transfusion Promote evidence based care pathways Perioperative Integrate care across disciplines GP, haem, Gastro, O&G
