Womens Voice & Leadership South Africa Women s Voice & Leadership South Africa The CAD 4 million Women Voice and Leadership (WVL) South Africa fund is part of the CAD 150 million global WVL fund supporting local women s organisations in developing countries to advance women and girls rights over the next four years. The initiative arises from Canada s Feminist International Policy (FIAP) addressing elements: i) promoting equality and the empowerment of women and girls; ii) human dignity; iii) growth that works for everyone; iv) environment and climate action; v) inclusive governance; vi) peace and security. Womens Voice and Leadership Ultimate Outcome Increased enjoyment of human rights by women and girls and the advancement of gender equality in South Africa. Specific Objectives of WVL-SA Project To help local women s rights organisations (WROs) and platforms to become a powerful voice for change in South Africa; To strengthen WROs in their programming, advocacy, networking and coalition building; To build strong and sustained women s movement that can advance and protect the rights of women and girls.
40 grants valued at over R22 million 20 multi-year core grants have been awarded in four provinces (Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Limpopo) 3 networking grants that span the whole country and 17 short term rapid response grants; 10 of these specifically for urgent action to protect women s rights under COVID-19
UKAID via the British High Commission in Pretoria has provided an additional R1 million for the COVID- 19 Rapid Response grants through the Southern Africa Trust. 20 grants were awarded to organisations across South Africa
