Kansas Education System Accreditation (KESA) Update November
KESA Pause October Board Meeting KESA team requested that the September Board Action be extended through June 30, 2021 - and APPROVED
Questions: Social Social- -Emotional Supports Emotional Supports How have you addressed the social-emotional needs of staff and students? What data are you collecting to verify that you have effective interventions and supports? What does the data indicate about your progress?
Academic Progress What local assessments and measures are you using to gauge your student growth? What does the evidence from those assessments and measures tell you about student progress?
What does the October Board Action mean? All Systems wishing to pause their KESA activities, for one year, will be able to put a halt to: OVT Visits Completion of System Yearly Updates Accountability - Every System by April 1stwill need to have completed in their OVT System Yearly Update the first question of that report. Survey sent to field to identify which systems were going to Pause and which would stay the course closed last Friday Reminder: Reminder: Pausing KESA activities does not mean that continuous improvement efforts should be part of your everyday business.
What activities should I be doing for KESA? Communicate Remote work can cause isolation take time to check on folks Ensure a steady and consistent line of communication between and among stakeholders take time to check on folks Explain the Why take time to check on folks Set Clear Expectations take time
What should I be doing for KESA? Meet with District and Building Leadership Teams to: Assess Continuous Improvement (KESA) District level Plan Building level Plans Revise Plan if needed Discuss data (evidence)
KESA Application Updating KESA System Yearly Update Forms Updating KESA OVT Forms Eliminating Initial and Final Reports for all systems entering a new cycle Assurances will move to a yearly question.
General KESA Updates Working with the Regional Education Laboratory - developing six modules on evaluating the continuous improvement process Collaborative Training with the Redesign Schools Project staff Continuous Improvement Clearly stated goals Clearly stated measures Ultimate impact on student achievement
Accreditation Advisory Council Activities Accreditation Advisory Council is working in small groups on the following projects: KESA and Redesign Crosswalk Foundational Structure Clarity of Definitions Feedback and support on updated KESA System and OVT Reports Update of the KESA Guidance Document
