  1. HD ENCs UKHO Experience Presented by Jason Scholey WENDWG10

  2. Use of SCAMIN SCAMIN applied to prevent contours from displaying unless requested by user in their shading and Safety settings Standard contours (5m, 10m, 15m in this case) are always shown Example shows 14m Safety Contour; 2-colour shading; Set Top- ignore SCAMIN, bottom - use SCAMIN

  3. Contour range Contours were added at 1m intervals only for vessels constrained by draught Therefore other features are not obscured by excessive contour lines Fewer contours means smaller file Example shows 25m Safety Contour; 4-colour shading; Set to ignore SCAMIN

  4. Issued as separate ENCs Depth areas do not close out at the edge of the survey Gives mariner true representation of data Easier to issue New Editions Example shows 25m Safety Contour; 4-colour shading; Set to ignore SCAMIN

  5. Compilation scale Important to research the display scale used on vessels during navigation If compilation scale is too large, HD ENC may never display at the scale used at sea effort is wasted Example shows 25m Safety Contour; 4-colour shading; Set SCAMIN; Display scale 1:75,000

  6. Awareness UKHO adds the letter H after the usage band to identify them in a catalogue listing

  7. User research Bridge teams strongly support HD ENCs and want much more coverage (don t understand why not available already) Needed in critical waterways e.g. rivers Currently Safety Contour is often useless Want coverage alongside restricted channels for contingency planning and collision avoidance. Must be compiled in Usage band that is equivalent to radar scale in use otherwise will not be visible.
