Year 5 Access Communication Restricted site access - as government guidance changes we will update and adapt our arrangements Attendance - remains compulsory. Contact the office by phone to report absence or email to confirm appointments & to collect children for appointments office@westbrookoldhall.com Prescribed Medication - complete the standard form, drop medication at the office Avoid entering the office please do not enter the office. Year 5 Access Arrival & Pick-up Ensuring Social Distancing One adult only allowed to accompany a child at any one time.No dogs on site Phase 1 or phase 2 opening/closing times Adult & child enter through Summer gate at 8.50am 10 minute time window for arrival Follow a designated route on the pathways, around the building to exit the site swiftly Bikes stored at designated area
Year 5 Access Arrival & Pick-up Ensuring Social Distancing Prompt home-time pick-up eases congestion out on the pavement. Disperse from outside school ASAP Siblings in other year groups are dropped off/picked up at the earlier time No children (across year groups) should mix as they arrive or leave No after-school clubs will operate until further notice Parents ensure other adults who drop off/pick up are aware of arrangements
Year 5 Uniform & Equipment Full school uniform is required. Summer uniform for the first half-term. School shoes to be worn. Trainers, large hair bows, earrings or other jewellery should not be worn. Long hair must be tied back at all times All uniform should be labelled PE day is set for Tuesday Children are expected to arrive in their kit: white t-shirt, shorts (black joggers and school jumper in colder weather) and trainers (children must be able to manage the laces independently otherwise velcro trainers must be worn)
Year 5 Uniform & Equipment Durable, refillable named water bottle stays in school all week, sent home every Friday Packed lunch box healthy lunch Waterproof coat and then hats and scarves etc when the weather goes cold Named pencil case School will provide: pencil; ruler; sharpener; eraser; pen (KS2) and coloured pencils
Year 5 Transition Activities PSHE key texts that help deal with any worries or anxieties Activities that centre on settling in and feeling comfortable and calm in our surroundings. A range of creative work that enables children to talk with adults and work at their own pace Bubble time and worry boxes that support 1-to-1 conversations Pupil well-being remains a school priority
Year 5 Changes & Similarities Developing the children s vocabulary through direct teaching Language rich environment Key Texts that support oral and written language Work with peers that supports discussion and asking questions Providing children with the opportunity to think, speak, write and check
Year 5 Curriculum Maintaining a broad & balanced curriculum Specialist French and music sessions *KS2 peripatetic music lessons will continue to be available English and Maths in the mornings Science and other foundation subjects in the afternoons
Year 5 Curriculum Identification of gaps address these in order to re-establish good progress in the essentials Music singing, chanting, shouting and the playing wind or brass instruments will be restricted. Our music curriculum will be adapted to ensure adherence to this guidance during the autumn term Access to computing equipment will be on a rota in order to ensure equipment can be cleaned down
Year 5 Assessments Pupils have missed a critical period of their education due to lockdown in the 2019 2020 academic year. The government has stated that the statutory primary assessments will take place in the new academic year Y2 phonic screening check Y1 phonic screening check Y4 multiplication tables check Y2 end of KS1 tests & teacher assessment Y6 end of KS2 tests &teacher assessment
Year 5 Assessments Teachers will use informal and formal assessments to identify gaps and track progress
Year 5 Classroom Arrangement Social distancing desks arranged in rows, forward facing Children discouraged from touching adults and their peers Risks reduced by: maintaining the year group POD; limited interaction with others by eating in the classrooms; accessing the hall once a week; year group playtimes at a different time to other year groups; limited movement around the classroom & equipment cleaned regularly
Year 5 School Meals KS1 children remain entitled to a free school meal and break-time snack KS2 may bring a healthy snack or purchase toast/juice Varied packed lunches will be provided by the school kitchen staff. The school kitchen staff will be working towards providing hot lunches after the half-term break. Parents may prefer to send their child with their own lunch School meals & snacks (KS2) paid for using ParentPay Please avoid sending nuts/anything containing nuts
Year 5 Handwashing & Respiratory Hygiene Children will clean their hands regularly (upon arrival, before and after eating, upon return from break-times and before leaving school) Additional support will be provided for pupils with complex needs The catch it, bin it, kill it approach will be used If children wear a face covering on the way to school, please ensure it is removed/disposed of/stored away as they enter the site
Year 5 Educational Visits & Residential Visits Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6 usually undertake overnight residential visits later in the academic year. We await government guidance for when these may resume No day educational visits have been planned for the autumn term
Year 5 Meeting Parents & Parents Evening Unfortunately, parents will not be able to come inside the school building for any meetings during the first half of the autumn term We will replace face-to-face meetings with phone calls. This will then be reviewed
Year 5 Friends of Westbrook Old Hall Primary School The usual timetable of social and fundraising events have been cancelled for the first half-term of the autumn term They will explore different means of fundraising for the school and activities they can organise for the children, so they do not miss out

Year 5 Remote Education Support Parents have accessed the school s website platform across the lockdown period This will be enhanced across the autumn term. We are reviewing & trialling an additional platform across the autumn term Should a local lockdown be required, this will become our key method of supporting home learning again
